Inti Raymi is a monthly arts and holistic wellness market in San Marcos Texas, the goal is to create a unique space where all San Martians are welcome and feel safe to explore themselves and new ideas and cultures. Part of the market will include workshops, classes, music and vending from local artisans. Vending is open to local gardeners, herbalists, and artists sharing their original work with the community. Inti is the Incan Sun God and Inti Raymi is the celebration of Inti in Ecuador during the Winter Solstice - the shortest day of the year or the Inca New Year which falls on June 22nd this year. During the Inca Empire, Inti Raymi was one of the most important celebrations and was celebrated in the main plaza. “The ceremony was also said to symbolize the mythical origin of the Inca people. It lasted for nine days and was filled with colorful dances and processions, as well as animal sacrifices to thank Pachamama (mother earth) and to ensure a good harvest season.” During this festival/market we would like to commemorate these forces both the sun and mother earth for providing us with everything we have, especially during these hard times. We would like to create one table that has items based on donation to benefit our community and art made alter to commemorate mother earth. Throughout history, indigenous cultures were forced to forget their roots and ancient traditions. We want to take back what colonizers and organized religion took away from us and remember and celebrate this ancient wisdom. If you would like to be involved or table please reach out to Studio San Martian or Dayann Pazmino the lead organizer. Dayann Pazmino is a visual artist, musician, and activist who was born in Ecuador and would like to spread the knowledge of indigenous cultures with San Marcos. We will have various workshops during the event, which are sliding scale from $5-$25, please give what you can!
